As some of you may know, I’ve been working with UT Southwestern to help organize a burn research study. It got the green light today. So now I need to recruit people. Here is a quick synopsis from Dr. Gabriel:
1) Recruit 5 people for the branding procedure. They should not
have pre-existing skin diseases nor body modifications on the area to be
branded. They also need to be available for follow up over about 3
months. If you provide me with the contact information of the potential
people I can do the screening over the phone or in person.
2) Identify a time and place for the branding procedures. I can
take the biopsies essentially anywhere.
3) When the people are getting their brand, I will record the
temperature of the brand, take one biopsy before they get it and one
from the wound within about an hour afterwards.
4) Then, we can arrange with the subjects a time and place for the
follow up biopsies. I need to get them about 1 week and 1, 2 and 3
months after the procedure. I can do these at my office or most
anyplace convenient. They will also do a very short (five minute tops)
questionnaire.
5) I have arranged to get Target and Walmart gift cards for the
people who complete up to the 3 month mark.
I have no dollar amount for the gift cards that volunteers will be “paid” but I’m sure it’s a very small amount.
