About 6 months ago I got suckered into joining Twitter. At the time I thought it was completely pointless, but it did help to pass the time when I was stuck somewhere and only had a twitter feed via my cell phone to keep me entertained. Soon though I upgraded to an iPhone and real web browsing became far more interesting than twitter texts. So I pretty much lost interest. Yes, I kept using twitter, but mainly as a tool.

Generally, I still think twitter is pointless. Most people tweet complete garbage. "I am brushing my teeth right now." Guess what? No one cares. If they do care, it’s generally someone that is completely obsessed with you….and if this is the case, your stalker happens to know where you are and what you are doing.
Plus if you subscribe to thousands of people on twitter how much good could it possibly do? The only logic I see there is that if you follow other people they might follow you…but the interface is setup such that if you follow more than a handful of people, unless you directly message or send @replies, you really can’t keep up with any conversation or stream of thought. Basically unless you are subscribed to just a couple of people you are mainly a voyeur watching fragments of other conversations…or a stalker …until now.
I have finally found a good use for twitter. OK I’m hardly the first person to find this feature, but I’m starting to use it now and I hope to find others that do as well. If you do this regularly, please let me know and I might follow you. What am I talking about? Uploading photos. If you read this blog then you know I try to add interesting media. Photos being one of the main things. Generally my photoblogs are just images I run across and find interesting. Here are a few examples:
Pointless maybe, but interesting enough to snap a quick picture. I’ve got an app to upload it to my blog, but they usually need some formatting, tweaking and content filtering before they go up and that means time. Now however, I’m using an app so that I can upload a quick shot with short caption. Ex:

Yeah pointless as well…but come on …sometimes it’s the pointless stuff that makes life a little less….um pointless?

nice post, yeah your getting it…1st level users just post “i am eating a cheeseburger” but the real desire of Twitter is for people of related interest to help each other “site-see”. Like point out + share helpful, interesting resources/websites/articles and cool pics, new discoveries…it’s not about me me me on twitter and that is the difference versus profile based myspace/facebook/and personal websites that are geared towards the “personality” seeking attention. that being said…yeah i just got home from the club and now i am making tater tots…tweeet….

the funny thing i think is that here in Holland there was a big thing about twitter… some new items where first on twitter (i don’t really care about who posts the first thing on the web) but it’s in interesting thing that every-day people that see some-thing happen are getting journalists..
when the turkish airline plane crashed here this dude that probably saw it happen or whatever twitter-ed it first… he got like 15 minutes of fame by it… o funny to see the guy on television, answering questions about ‘how he feels that he was the first one to break the news’
twitter, indeed pointless, but pointless things can be fun some-times..

I have A g1, basically Google iphone equivalent, but still find twitter entertaining for updating, especially when 3g is not available. One tool that is kind of neat with it is the website feed. It allows people on your website to see your most recent tweets. It kind of gives a nice “real time” feel to your blog or webpage.

Twitter is FUCKING shit,yet another pointless internet phenomenon
it all started with Myspace,then the “cool” kids at college all jumped onto the Facebook bandwagon,then they all migrated to Bebo,now they are all jumping onto Twitter.
Soon enough there will be another site/community that will start up and all the “cool” kids will migrate to this…
Cynics might say its yet another data harvester.and thats why i dont have Facebook,Myspace,Bebo,Twitter or any of these pointless sites/apps on my system..Just because i have 500 virtual friends ive never met doesnt make me a better person or more like able..lol
Twitter will die soon enough..GOOD!
